Club Outings

Outing: Fall Color Outing
Meet for carpooling:
Sunday 9/25 @8:30am in the SE corner of JAX Sporting Goods in Loveland. 2665 W Eisenhower Blvd, Loveland, CO

Let’s plan to meet at 8:30am in the South East Corner of JAX Sporting Goods in Loveland. We will then proceed to carpool from there to the Central City Cemetery along the Peak-to-Peak Highway by way of Estes Park which is 88 miles one-way. We will be making several stops along the way for photo opportunities while viewing the Fall Colors. A few of the places that we can visit include:
· Lily Lake
· Saint Catherine’s Chapel on the Rock
· Town of Ward
· Town of Nederland
· The many scenic overlooks along the way
The cemeteries above Central City are quite old and receive minimal maintenance which has resulted in them being overgrown with aspen trees. Assuming that there hasn’t been a weather event to strip the leaves, this should be quite spectacular. There are actually four cemeteries grouped together in this location. These are the Oddfellows, Catholic, Knights of Pythies and Central City Cemeteries. I think the Knights of Pythies Cemetery is the most interesting.
High Clearance Vehicle: Because the road to the cemeteries is fairly rough, a high clearance vehicle is highly recommended. I have a Honda CR-V and it’s perfect for this road and I can carry up to 3 people (myself and 2 others) comfortably.
Communications: To maintain contact between the cars I would like each vehicle to carry one FRS radio. I have 4 of these radios but if you have your own bring it. Using the FRS radios, if someone spots a good photo then we can all stop and no one will be left behind.
Lunch: There are several excellent restaurants in Nederland for lunch assuming we don’t get there too early. Otherwise, we can look for something in Black Hawk or Central City.
Walking: This trip will primarily be a driving tour. The only significant walking that we might do is around the cemeteries. But the cemeteries can easily be seen without significant walking.
New Moon: The 25th is the night of the new moon. It’s possible that if we are out long enough that there might be some nice evening blue hour opportunities around the cemeteries or along the Peak-to-Peak highway on the way back. However, this would make for a long day and after visiting thecemeteries people might just want to head home along the fastest route (myself included).

If you have questions, contact Ed Ogle.
