SIG Meetings/Outings

Conceptual SIG - Tue 9/15 @6pm ZOOM
I will send out the meeting ID and passcode when I get ZOOM figured out. I will be helping Kai with the Conceptual SIG for a while and we are going to switch from group photoshoots to online group discussions where we help each other learn to create fine art from our photography.
We will be concentrating on photo editing and manipulation. My plan is for us to teach each other, we won't be depending on anyone person to teach everything to the rest of us.
During part of our meetings members will be able to show a current project that they are working on and get CONSTRUCTIVE criticism from the rest of us. Peoples' tastes are different and you can take or leave the suggestions, but I think that feedback will improve the final project.
We will be applying the techniques and critiques to whatever type of photography you are interested in, it doesn't have to be a portrait or landscape or wildlife.
I will be using Photoshop and Topaz filters, but you can use whatever tool you like to edit your pictures. You can purchase Adobe Photoshop Elements for $60 on Amazon, or rent the full version of Adobe Photoshop for $10/month, but you don't have to have Photoshop to participate in this SIG.
Here are some of the topics that we can discuss at our meetings:
- Composition
- Color Grading
- Dodge & Burn
- Frequency Separation
- Layer Effects and Blend Modes
- Compositing
- - Selections
- - Masking
- - Image Harvesting
- - Overlaying Textures
- - Changing Backgrounds
- - Shadows
- - Atmospheric fog
- Edge Effects
- Typography
- Custom Brushes
- Topaz Filters
- Disintegration/Dispersion/Shatter Techniques
At the first meeting I want to find out which topics our members are interested in discussing, what tools they use. I also want members to show 3 images that they like with a style similar to what they want to develop for their own images. If we have a lot of time we might talk about Color Grading.
Here are some teachers that teach how to create fine art from photography:
Sebastion Michaels - My Photo Artistic Life (grunge compositing)
Blake Rudis - (Photoshop expert)
Rikard Rodin - (compositing, project-based Photoshop training)
Please send me any additional topics and suggestions that you might have for the Conceptual SIG.
Thanks, Mike Barry mike@fortcollinswebworks.com

Landscape SIG Special Project - "Apocalyptic Landscape"
This will be the second socially distanced Landscape SIG for everyone to participate in. The theme is Post Apocalyptic Landscape. This will be an opportunity for everyone to document the post fire scenes to the west of us. PLEASE NO PICTURES OF FIRES. We don’t want to get in the fire fighters work. This will be after the fire is out. The idea is to document and to use your creativity to make artistic images. Not all photos need to be pretty to be interesting. Everyone has two months to work on this. Be safe. Kenneth Eis 970-305-2038 cell

Follow up on Macro SIG held 7/28
Hi Folks,
On Tuesday, July 28th we had a Macro SIG outing that followed the model Ken Eis suggested to the landscape SIG. The outing was held at the CSU Trial Gardens, which made social distancing easy. The suggested topics for this outing we’re cultivated flowers, pollinators and plant textures. This is a reminder to send me 6 to 8 of your favorite images from the photoshoot and from other times you have taken photographs of the suggested subjects. Include your name along with the name of the flower, pollinator or plant in each photograph. I will assemble these images into a presentation to be scheduled in the fall. If you have not already sent in images please send me your images by Friday, September 18th. Thank you.
Smiles, Paul Marcoux
